Rubio Goes Down, As Timberwolves Try To Look Forward

AP
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio has suffered an apparent ACL tear to his left knee thus ending his rookie campaign.

Rubio was averaging over 10 points per game, 8.2 assists while shooting 36% from the field in 41 games this season, starting 31 of them. The 21-year-old suffered the injury in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.

His tenure with the Wolves did not get off to a great start after being drafted 5th overall back in June of 2009. He elected to play for his club team in his native Spain for two years before making the jump to the NBA this season.

The team will look to veterans Luke Ridnour and JJ Barea to pick up the point guard duties in his absence. The injury will also end his participation with the Spanish team in the Olympics this summer.

The Timberwolves have been a resurgent team this season as they are only a half game out of the 8th and final spot in the Western Conference at 21-20.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
This just sucks for the Timberwolves and Rubio. He has played well this season and the it was looking like a playoff spot was within reach. They still have a shot to make it but now the the energy is definitely not the same.
