Kim Barnes Arico Is The Big East Coach Of The Year

Redstorm Sports
The milestones continue for St. Johns women's basketball coach Kim Barnes Arico as she was named Big East Coach Of The Year at the postseason awards press conference on Friday. This is the second time she has won this award as she was also named coach of the year back in 2006.

In her 10th season coach Barnes Arico has the Red Storm flying high with a #2 seed in the Big East tournament. This comes on the heels of eclipsing the most wins in the programs history three weeks ago against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The team is ranked #18 in the country and has knocked off 5 ranked opponents this season including ending the UConn Huskies 99-game home winning streak.

In her speech coach Barnes Arico deflected the attention from her self and said "it's obviously not my award it's my team's." She also thanked her staff and the university for giving her so much support.

The Red Storm await the winner of Louisville/Villanova in the quarterfinals on March 4th.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
Coach Kim Barnes Arico definitely deserves this award because she has put in a lot of work during her tenure and hopefully this will open people's eyes to the amazing things she has done. Let us not forget that she has to recruit and compete in the same area as UConn coach Geno Auriemma and Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer, two Hall of Fame coaches and leaders of outstanding programs. Don't be shocked if she wins National Coach of the Year award as well.
