Numerous media organizations have reported outfielder Pat Burrell plans to retire. Many believe the reason for his retirement is due to a nagging foot issue.

Burrell played 13 seasons in the majors nine of them with the Philadelphia Phillies, 2 with the Tampa Bay Rays and 2 with the San Francisco Giants. Over his career Burrell hit .253 with 292 homeruns and 976 runs batted in. He also won 2 World Series rings one with the Phillies in 2008 and the Giants in 2010.

The former #1 overall pick never quite lived up to his promise after being drafted out of the University of Miami back in 1998. Known more for his offense then his defensive skills his long swing amounted to a career total of 1564 strikeouts.

The 35-year-old Burrell ended last season with the Giants appearing in 94 games hitting .230 with 7 homeruns and 21 rbi's.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
All I can remember about Pat Burrell was that after Chipper Jones he was the biggest Met killer around. If his numbers against the Mets were projected over a full season he would definitely be considered an MVP candidate. Heck he might even have an outside shot at the Hall of Fame.
