Causes of Back Pain
In many cases, back pain occurs as a result of injury to the lumbar muscles. Injuries are often caused by sudden, repetitive motion of the hip, for example when playing golf, or from lifting something that is too heavy.
Back pain can also occur due to sitting for too long, especially if the wrong position is sitting and the chair you are sitting on is uncomfortable. In children, back pain can occur due to frequent carrying a backpack that is too heavy.
Other factors that can also increase the risk of low back pain, especially in adults, include:
- Age 30 years and over
- Have excess weight
- Lack of exercise
In addition to injury, back pain can also occur due to disorders of the organs in the spine, or disorders of organs in other parts of the body. Disorders of the spinal cord that can cause back pain include:
- Inflammation of the joints in the spine
- Pinched nerves due to protrusion of the spinal cord (hernia nucleus pulposus)
- Erosion of the spinal cord due to the aging process
- Narrowing of the vertebrae or spinal stenosis
- Spinal injuries due to bumps or accidents
- Abnormalities in the curvature of the spine, such as kyphosis, lordosis, or scoliosis
- Spondylolisthesis
Disorders of organs in other parts of the body can also cause back pain. In this condition, the pain can be felt only on one side of the waist, it can be right or left, but it can also be on both sides of the waist. Some of the disorders in other organs of the body are:
- Miom
- Kidney infection
- Pancreatitis
- Kidney stones
- Endometriosis
- Appendix
- Ovarian cyst
