Jets Wonder What If...?

In his three years as head coach Rex Ryan has been brash, loud and willing to talk about his teams aspirations to not only play in the Super Bowl but win it. After making the AFC Championship game in back-to-back seasons this year will see him answer a different set of questions.

After a lackluster loss to the Miami Dolphins 19-16 to end the season the Jets will miss out on the playoffs for the first time in three years. The game was marred by wideout Santonio Holmes getting into an argument in the huddle which led to his benching by offensive coordinator Brian Schottemier. Sanchez threw three picks and questions still arise as to whether he can carry this team to the promise land.

Earlier in the week Ryan did not help the situation by mentioning Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Sanchez in an interview referring to the quarterback position. Mannig has not played a down this season due to a nagging neck issue.

Entering this season the Jets were expected to compete not only in the AFC East but also in the AFC with the signing of wideout Plaxico Burress, who was set free after spending 18 months in prison for a gun charge. They brought back the aformentioned Holmes and Antonio Cromarte for the secondary.

The team never looked like the same team from the past couple of years as they were 0-5 against teams heading into the playoffs. The offense seemed to struggle at times even though Sanchez threw for almost 3500 yards with 26 touchdowns and Shon Greene rushed for 1054 yards with 6 touchdowns. The defense was still ranked fifth in opposing passing yards and 13th in rushing.

Numerous media outlets reported that players such as Bart Scott and Darrelle Revis just walked out and would not talk to the media afterwards. The Jets PR staff had to escort Holmes out of the lockerrom as he was getting out of control. Many players feel that Holmes quit on this team. Rich Cimini spoke to ESPN and said that the players seemed visibly shaken and that Rex Ryan seemed to be crying.

Yet there was something missing this season and the team will have time to fix what needs to be fixed and move onto the future.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
How the mighty have fallen. I don't hate Rex Ryan for his boisterous attitude because he is who he is but he will have to eat alot of crow after this performance. There are alot of Jets haters out there who are happy to see this team go down in smoke. At least one New York team will make the playoffs.
