Selenium Rich Foods That Are Good To Consume
The mineral selenium is useful for supporting reproduction, thyroid gland function, DNA production, and preventing inflammation. Selenium deficiency in the body is characterized by mood swings, anxiety, confusion, and contributes to myodegenerative diseases such as muscle weakness.
The good news, selenium deficiency can be overcome by eating the following foods:
1. Fish
Seafood such as tuna contains about 92 mcg of selenium per 85 grams of fish. This makes tuna an excellent source of selenium. Likewise with sardines, tiars, clams, shrimp, salmon, and crabs, which contain selenium between 40 to 65 mcg.
2. Beef
The selenium content of beef depends on the type of cut. For example, a cut of beef steak contains about 33 mcg of selenium. While beef liver contains about 28 mcg of selenium, and ground beef about 18 mcg.
3. Chicken
Chicken meat contains about 22 to 25 mcg of selenium per 85 grams.
4. Eggs
One hard-boiled egg contains about 20 mcg of selenium. Even if you process the eggs in a different way, the ingredients will remain more or less the same.
5. Milk and yogurt
Milk and yogurt each contain about 8 mcg of selenium per cup, or about 11 percent of the daily requirement. You can add milk or yogurt to a serving of cereal, to get other important nutrients.
