Palmer Gets His Wish

The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed on a trade that will send quarterback Carson Palmer to the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders send the Bengals a first-round pick in 2012 and a conditional pick which could turn into a first round pick in 2013 according to FOXSports.com. It is all contingent of the Raiders winning a playoff game this season.

As the trade deadline in the NFL comes around it usually goes without a big deal because of the circumstances surrounding contracts and the players on the trading block but this deal is one of the biggest in NFL history.

Palmer, 31, who said he would rather retire than play for the Bengals again has not played a snap in the preseason or the regular season. The Raiders just lost their starting signal callerJason Campbell for the next two months and maybe even longer with a collarbone injury. They made a call to David Garrad who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier in the season but he declined the offer after saying he would be having back surgery. That left the Raiders with journeyman Kyle Boller and rookie Terrelle Pryor as the only quarterbacks on the roster.

Bengals owner Mike Brown was not in favor of trading the former overall number one pick but said with the emergence of rookie Andy Dalton out of TCU and the surprising 4-2 start it made the deal much easier to make.

Raiders head coach Hue Jackson, who was also in charge of making the move has close ties with Palmer workng with him back at USC and also was a coach on the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2005, arguably the best season of Palmer's career.

Palmer is set to make $11 million this season and is under contract until 2014.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
This is a big gamble for the Raiders because not only have their been questions about Palmer's arm strength and accuracy but he has also had two major injuries one to his knee and another to his elbow. But if he can return close to the player who was a Pro Bolwer a couple of years ago then this trade works out well for Oakland. The Bengals are so happy because not only do they get rid of a guy who does not want to play for them they also improve their team for the future.
