The Minnesota Lynx Are Atop The Basketball World

(Atlanta, Georgia)- The Minnesota Lynx took care of the Atlanta Dream 73-67 in the WNBA best of five game series 3-0 capture the WNBA title.

The Lynx who almost let a late ten point lead slip away were able to hold on and capitalize on free throws to put the game away.

The Lynx finished the postseason on a a six-game winning streak sweeping the Phoenix Mercury in the Western Conference Finals the series before 2-0. The Lynx were led by Simone Augustus with 16 points and rookie of the year Maya Moore with 15 points including a crucial three pointer in the second half before the shot clock bhit zero in her hometown. In the loss Angel McCoughtry had a game-high 22 points.

This is the second year in a row the Dream made the finals just to get swept. Last season they lost to the Seattle Storm.

This is the first championship for the Lynx and the the third for head coach Cheryl Reeve who as an assistant with the Detroit Shcok won two titles in 2006 and 2008.

There are not many times we can say that the best team during the regular season was able to dominate during the playoffs as well. This is definitely true for the Lynx. They had a rookie of the year in Maya Moore, coach of the year Cheryl Reeve and the number one seed in the Western Conference. On the flipside for the Dream and another year of what could have been?
