Francona Out As Red Sox Manager

The first casualty of the Boston Red Sox September collapse in baseball is manger Terry Francona. Red Sox management and Francona held a meeting in Boston earlier today and held a press conference later on to make it official that his options for the 2012 and 2013 seasons will not be excersized.

This comes on the heels of one of the worst baseball collapses of all-time. The team finished September with only 6 wins compared to 20 losses and failed to make the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Francona led the team to their first World Series in 86 years back in 2003, bringing an end to the so called "curse." He also led the team to another World Series in 2007 and had six 90-win seasons during his tenure.

GM Theo Epstein said "No one in the oragnization blames Francona for what happened in September. It was a difficult and draining season for him as well as us."

Team officials will also have to make a decision on whether to bring back DH David Ortiz. Ortiz who will be a free agent, made over $12 million this past season and has said he would like to stay with the team.

Francona said he could not reach the players like he wanted too. And in fairness to the team he felt it best if he stepped down now.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
I'm shocked when I heard this news. I understand he met with team officials but that's customary to meet after the season is over to get ready for the next one. The most glaring comment he made was that he could not get through to the players like he wanted to. I want the names of these players because from the outside looking in it seemed as things were fine. Well except for kicking the bucket and choking away a chance to make the playoffs. I'm not worried because he is a good manager and he will find a job again.
