The New York Knicks have agreed on a deal to bring in point guard Baron Davis. Davis was just cut by the Cleveland Cavaliers after they designated him as their amnesty player because he was due $28 million over the next two seasons.

The two-time All-Star will not be ready to play for another 6-8 weeks as he battles a herniated disc in his back. Last season with the Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Clippers he averaged 13 points and a shade under 7 assists per game.

The Knicks hope Davis can bring some veteran leadership to a backourt which features youngsters Toney Douglas and Landry Fields. The team also signed Mike Bibby last week after using the amnesty clause on Chauncey Billups who is now playing with the Clippers.

Davis turned down offers from the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat because of the opportunity to play at the Garden. Telling the Associated Press at the Knicks training facility, "I always kind of rise to the occasion when I'm playing against the Knicks and playing in the Garden. It's just an unbelievable opportunity and I'm ready to accept the challenge.''

The Knicks also signed center Tyson Chandler and look to build on last season's first round exit in the playoffs.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
Looking at this team right now it is not a championship contender but every team has to start somewhere. I would have liked to have kept Billups but there is no way they would have got Chandler without letting him go. I still don't think Toney Douglas is the right fit for this team but he will have alot of time to prove me wrong.
