3 Kinds of Disorders in the Circulatory System

Disorders of the Circulatory System

Here are some disorders of the circulatory system that you need to be aware of:

1. High blood pressure (hypertension)

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is one of the most common disorders of the circulatory system. The condition is often asymptomatic, but when it does occur, symptoms can include headaches, nosebleeds, and shortness of breath.

Hypertension that is not treated immediately can damage blood vessels which eventually leads to various serious complications, such as metabolic syndrome, dementia, aneurysms, stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney failure.

2. Ischemia

Ischemia is the medical term used when the tissue does not get an adequate supply of oxygen, for example in the heart muscle. Ischemia of the heart is usually caused by narrowing or blockage of one or more coronary arteries.

3. Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a condition when blood vessels narrow and harden due to plaque buildup. In its early stages, atherosclerosis does not cause any symptoms.

New symptoms appear when the blood vessels are covered by plaque, so they can't flow blood to organs or body tissues. Usually, the symptoms of atherosclerosis that appear vary, depending on which blood vessels are narrowed.
