Another Giants Defensive Player Goes Down

The New York Giants lose starting middle linebacker Jon Goff for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. Goff suffered the injury during practice on Monday.

Goff  the two-year starter is another in a slew of Giants defensive players who have gone down with injuries this preseason. Ranging from rookie cornerback Prince Amukamara (broken foot), defensive end Osi Umenyiora (arthroscopic knee surgery), both will be back this season but cornerbacks Terrell Thomas, Bruce Johnson, Brian Witherspoon and defensive tackle Marvin Austin are done for the year.

The Giants now will to turn rookies Greg Jones out of Michigan St. and Boston College alum Mark Herzlich to fill the position.

In a press conference on Wednesday head coach Tom Coughlin said “we’re all shocked and greatly disappointed by the loss of Jon Goff, but said the team is excited and ready to play the Washington Redskins in their season opener Sunday in FedEx Field."

From The Sports Mind of RB:
When I heard the news that Goff went down I began to chuckle. Not because I like seeing players get hurt but the way the injury bug has hit the defense this preseason. This is by no means a laughing matter but this defense is falling apart all over the place. Special teams is pretty bad at this point, the offense is still working out the kinks and now the defense has to bring in someone else to do the job. I just might dread the upcoming sixteen game schedule.
