Peyton Manning underwent a procedure on his neck Thursday morning according to FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer.

Manning, 35, was slated to miss the season opener, is likely to miss two to three monhs while he recuperates. This is the third procedure Manning has had on his neck in the last 19 months. He tried to practice with the team last week but was forced to cut back after he felt discomfort in the neck.

The Colts as a contingency plan signed veteran quarterback Kerry Collins out of retirement to start the season. Now it looks like Collins will be more of a permanent replacement until Manning is healthy enough to play.

Manning's streak of 208 consecutive regular-season starts, second only to Brett Favre's NFL-record streak of 297, will also come to an end.

From the Sports Mind of RB:
This is just a killer for the Colts because Peyton Manning is their everything. I don't care who are the receivers, who the running backs are or who the coach is, every year since coming to the NFL Manning is good for a 10-win season and a playoff birth. He finally got the monkey off his back about not being a big game player a couple of years ago by winning the Super Bowl. Now the Houston Texans better take this and run with it because if they can't win the division they don't deserve it.
