This week I give you the candidates for NL Cy Young, AL Cy Young, NL MVP, AL MVP, playoff contenders, and the teams that will compete in the World Series. Today I will give you the NL Cy Young Award winner.
Winner:
Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers- I know what you're thinking "he plays on a terrible team" but that should not disqualify him. He has been the most consistent pitcher in the National League all season. He has defeated former Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum three times this season in head to head matchups. He is second in wins, tied for first in era, first in innings pitched and first in strikeouts. If he is not a Cy Young winner I don't know who is.
Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies- The reigning Cy Young winner will be dethroned this year. He has been very good this year and probably will win it because he plays on a very good team and has received alot of attention this year. There was so much pressure on him coming into the year because the Phillies were crowned World Series champions before playing a single regular season game.
Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies- See Roy Halladay above. There were months were Lee was the best pitcher in baseball with records of 5-0 with era below 2.00. There were other But he always found a way to follow a great month with a mediocre one. That inconsistency will cost him the top prize this year.
Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies- As you can see there is a pattern going here. The Phillies have one of the best staffs if not the best in baseball and the proof is in the pudding. Hamels could be an ace on any other staff but he is the number three on this one. He has had a nice season but there is not enough to win the award.
Dark Horse:
Ian Kennedy of the Arizona Diamondbacks- Many New York Yankees fans won't be to happy to see this name. Kennedy leads the NL in wins and has helped the Diamondbacks to one of the better records in the league. I would not be shocked if he was also up for Comeback Player of the Year with the type of season he has had.
