Who's In And Who's Out Of The Playoffs?

AL Wild Card
Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 8-7 10 innings

Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3

For awhile there I wondered if the Rays knew that they needed this game to make the playoffs. If nobody looked at the standings people would think the Yankees needed this game more. A comeback that almost didn't happen took 10 innings to happen.
How about those Sox? They not only choke their season away but they also choke the last game of the season away with Papelbon on the mound. The rain came and almost washed away the worst stretch in baseball history out the window. Don't tell me Red Sox and their fans were not ecstatic to see the heavens open up and bring down that sweet, sweet rain water. New theme song for the team is "Rain drops falling on my head, but that does not mean my eyes will soon be turning read..." And of course one of the biggest disappointments this season Carl Crawford dropped the ball that would have sent it to extra innings.

NL Wild Card
Philadelphia Phillies beat Atlanta Braves in 13 innings 4-3

St. Louis Cardinals beat Houston Astros 8-0

Let's be serious did you think the Cardinals were going to lose to the Astros? If you do then shame on you. The Braves choked away a chance to win this thing after having an eight game lead. If only shortstop Jack Wilson would have turned that double play in the seventh for the Braves they probably would be heading to St. Louis for a one game playoff. As someone once told me "If, if and buts were candy and nuts everyday would be Christmas."
