Mets ownership says they could not agree to a deal with hedge fund manager David Einhorn for ownership in the team.

The Mets and Einhorn agreed to a $200 million deal in May which would have led the way for Einhorn to become minority owner and maybe a majority owner down the line.

In a statement Thursday Einhorn said “I am disappointed to announce that I will not be purchasing an ownership interest in the New York Mets baseball team at this time."

Mets ownership which is headed by Fred Wilpon have been battling legal issues stemming from Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme. The deal would have been able to pay for pay for debts and expenses.

From The Sports Mind of RB:
For the Mets things seem to go from bad to worse. Einhorn and his influx of money looked like the team was turning the page on the past couple of years and begin a new future. Fred Wilpon said "...the Mets will now talk to others about investing in the team." Good luck with that buddy.
