On paper the New York Giants were supposed to have the edge on the Philadelphia Eagles heading into Sunday night's game. The Eagles however, did not receive the memo.
The Eagles were playing without quarterback Michael Vick (ribs) and injured wideout Jeremy Machlin. So they had to rely on backup Vince Young who had not started a game in over a year since his days with the Tennessee Titans.
Young was not spectacular throwing for two touchdown passes and three picks for 255 yards. But as NBC analyst Chris Colinsworth said "No matter what he does during the first three quarters, he is one of the best when it comes to the 4th quarter and crunch time winning 40% of the time." As Young drove down the field and with 2:45 left in the game threw a touchdown pass to Riley Cooper to put the Eagles up for good. For Cooper it was his first touchdown of the season.
Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw missed his third straight game with a foot injury and it showed. The team rushed for only 29 yards and back D.J. Ware was knocked out of the game by defensive end Trent Cole with a concussion.
The Eagles kept their slim playoff chances alive and improved to 4-6 and 2-1 in the NFC East.
The Giants are losers of two in a row and are 6-4 and 1-2 in the division. This was the third game in a brutal stretch for the team which began with the New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers and will continue with the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Eli Manning was plagued by dropped balls and passes deflecting off the fingertips of would be receivers.
With about 1:25 to play the team was set up by a Victor Cruz 47-yard pass play inside the Eagles 30-yard line. The momentum quickly shifted when Manning rolling to his right was hit from behind by defensive end Jason Babin which resulted in a fumble and the Eagles recovered.
From The Sports Mind Of RB:
As a Giants fan I knew this was a game they could not only win but lose as well. They just better get ready because the next couple of games will not be any easier.
