The Madden Cover Curse Continues

There has been a long list of NFL players who have appeared on the cover of Madden who have seen their productivity take a step back or a quick end to their careers. This year is no different as we have another player who has fallen prey to it's mystique.

Since 1995 former head coach and NFL analyst John Madden used to appear on the cover of his namesake game but all that changed after the 1999 season.. Then players were selected due to performance on the field or a fan vote to grace the cover. Since then players such as Dante Culpepper, Marshal Faulk, Shaun Alexander and Vince Young who brashly denied that the Madden curse even existed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to name a few.  Now we can add Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis to that list.

Hillis was chosen to be on the cover of Madden NFL 12 this past offseason by the fans after his breakout year with Browns during the 2011-2012 season. Hillis has gone from a player that most would consider a player with top ten back potential to being a piranha in the locker room.

Hillis has had numerous problems such as players questioning his toughness after missing a game due to illness, he did not appear for an engagement at a Boys and Girls Club after agreeing to go, the team held an intervention with him last week after these issues were brought to light in the media. Now the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are going to let him walk as a free agent after getting involved in contact discussions earlier in the season.

It has been a tough year for Hillis to say the least and things are not getting any easier as he will miss his next game due to a pulled hamstring.

From The Sports Mind Of RB:
This is why I did not want him in fantasy football. Not only due to the Madden curse but I did not think he could duplicate last season again. I wonder if a player will decide to forgoe the cover just because their careers might go into the toilet afterwards? I wonder who will be next?
