Oklahoma St. coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna lost their lives Thursday afternoon after the plane they were flying in crashed. The university confirmed that the single engine plane was not able to navigate through the steep terrain of Arkansas.

The pilot, former Oklahoma state Senator Olin Branstetter, and his wife Paula also died in the crash.

The 50-year-old Budke had a 112-83 record at the school since joining the team back in 2005.

This is the second time the school has faced similar circumstances as in January 2001, 10 players and staff with the men’s basketball team died in a Colorado plane crash.

Oklahoma State canceled its women’s college basketball home games set for Saturday and Sunday.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
