Sports Movie

Moneyball tries to depict the behind the scenes look of a baseball team. Sabermetrics, the mathematical and statistical analysis of baseball records has become so popular it is a big part of the game. It was created by Bill James, curently a senior adviser to the Boston Red Sox and helped pave the way for the book Moneyball by Michael Lewis. The person who is credited with bringing this into baseball circles is Oakland A's GM Billy Beane played in the movie by Brad Pitt. Most movies are not made to be entirely factually correct but the way Beane would barge into lockerrooms, intefere witrh lineups and take scouts head on was eye opening. The way I manage my fantasy teams would never cut it in professional sports. I rememebr hearing someone mention about Joe Torre when he managed the New York Yankees that "He may not be the best manager of talent but he is the best when it comes to managing people." It just goes to show that whether it be sports or the business world you have to work with a lot of egos and try to make it work.
