For Daniel Murphy Different Year, Same Ending

For the second-year in a row Daniel Murphy has his season cut short by a knee injury.

Murphy who came in as a replacement at second base on Sunday against the Atlata Braves was trying to place a tag on runner Jose Constanza trying to steal second base. After Constanza over slid the bag his spikes went directly into Murphy's left knee.

After being helped off the field an MRI later showed he had torn the MCL in his left knee. Last season Murphy had the same tear but in his right knee.

Murphy told SNY he was excited about the progress his right knee had made after surgery last year and the prognosis for the left knee is pretty much the same.

Murphy was top five in hitting in the NL at .318 and played numerous positions at first, second and third.

In other Mets news shortstop Jose reyes was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of the same nagging hamstring that plagued him the last time he went on the dl earlier in the season.

From the Sports Mind of RB:

This is just devastating news for Daniel Murphy. He had worked so hard last offseason to make himself into not only a better hitter but also a better all around player. Not only is he going into another season rehabing from an injury but also will be a player without a position. Not to mention his injury really cripples my fantasy team (no pun intended.)

Jose Reyes' hamstrings are not making good on his long-term contract plans. A player like Reyes who relies so heavilly on his speed has had issues in the past with his legs but now twice in a contract year does not bode well for any player especially one that makes his living on them.
