In a season filled with hitting streaks (Dan Uggla), no hitters (Justin Verlander and Francisoco Liriano) and 3000 hits (Derek Jeter) you can add another to that list, 600 homeruns.

The Minnesota Twins' Jim Thome, hit his 6ooth homerun in the seventh inning against the Detroit Tigers' relief pitcher Dan Schlereth as the twins defeated the Tigers 9-6. This was Thome's second homerun of the game as he hit one in his previous at-bat off of starter Rick Porcello for number 599. His family and teamates came out to congratulate him a s he made his way to home plate.

Thome becomes the eight player in major league history to hit 600 homeruns and is in the top five in players for homeruns per at-bat. The 600 club includes names such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and Willie Mays.

From the Sports Mind of RB:

From all acoounts Jim Thome is a class act and an all around good guy. Thome played on those offensive juggernaut Cleveland Indians of the mid- 90's, then signed with the Philadelphia Phillies right before they decided to bring up first baseman Ryan Howard, who played the same position. Knowing this Thome decided to take Howard under his wing and continued to play the game the only way he knew how, the same way he always has. Even though a cloud will always hang around Thome because he played a bulk of his career during the steriods era he still was a guy who played for team and was not just a me guy.
