Hall of Fame head coach Pat Summitt has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with the early stages of dementia.

The 59-year-old Summitt underwent the tests at the Mayo clinic back in May. The clinic describes Alzheimer's as the destruction of brain cells and progresses slowly.

In an interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel Summitt says "...it's not going to keep me from living my life, not going to keep me from coaching."

Summit is entering her 38th season as Vols head coach, in which she has 1,071 wins which tops both men's and women's basketball and has eight national titles.

From The Sports Mind of RB:
I have the utmost respect for Pat Summitt. The player's lives she has touched and the intensity she coaches her games is something to be seen. I will never forget the looks she gave players that would make Bob Knight blush. In hope she can overcome this because basketball in general would not be the same without Pat Summitt.
