The New York Jets lost their preseason opener last night on Monday Night Football 20-16.

The Jets came into the game without the services of center Nick Mangold and wide receiver Plaxico Burress. The first team moved the ball well with QB Mark Sanchez going 6-7 but was sacked twice which would be a sore point for the team all night. Rookie quarterback Greg Mcelroy who won a National Championship with Alabama his junior year was slotted as the back up after Mark Brunnel dislocated his finger before the game. Mcelroy who threw for 208 yards on 23 of 39 passing, got a rude welcome to the league with five sacks.

Runnung back Chris Ogbonnaya did well for the The Houston Texans in the absence of both Arian Foster and Andre Johnson. Ogbonnaya ran for 37 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown and caught six passes for 67 yards. In an interview after the game QB Matt Schaub said he was happy with the way the team looked and is excited about the upcoming season.

Injury notes: Jets offensive lineman Rob Turner will be lost for 8-10 weeks after having surgery to repair a broken leg he suffered during the game. Jets running back Joe McKnight might have had a concussion.

From the Sports Mind of RB:

The Jets offensive line looked pretty bad but to be fair it was thin to begin with and the injury to Tuner just makes matters worse. The first team offense looked decent and just imagine when Burress gets going this could really be a difference maker for this team.

The Texans defense looked a bit approved with the addition of Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator and the offense didn't look so bad even without their top weapons.
