The Giants lost to the Panthers on Saturday 20-10 in a game in which the Giants offense looked abysmal. They were only able to muster a field goal and the touchdown was an interception by linebacker Michael Boley in the first half. In his five series at the helm Eli Manning was unable to move the first team offense. Manning overthrew Hakeem Nicks on a couple of pass attempts, special teams seemed a bit sluggish and the offensive line which comes into the season as a big question mark did not fare so well. The only bright spot for the Giants was DE Jason Paul Pierre who was arguably the player of the game with two sacks and seven tackles.
The Panthers had QB's Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen split the snaps. Clausen threw a pick and a touchdown but all eyes were definitely on the rookie Cam Newton. Newton entered the game in the second quarter to a standing ovation from the hometown crowd. Newton who showed off his arm strength with a pass to tight end Greg Olsen gave a glimpse of why he was taken number one overall this past draft.
From the Sports Mind of RB:
Most people might chalk up the Giants poor pay to lack of time this off-season but no you don't get off that easy. Not one part of this team looked good and they were playing the Panthers with a rookie QB and a second year QB. I bet not one person reading this blog can name another player on the Panthers team, don't worry I'll wait. I usually don't put much stock into the preseason but the G-Men better show me something or its going to be a long season.
