Defensive end Osi Umenyiora and the New York Giants have not been able to come up with a new contract so the team gave his agent Tony Agnone permission to look for trade partners.
Umenyiora, who was part of the Giants run to winning Super Bowl 42 has not been pleased with the negotiations surrounding his contract. In an interview with the Associated Press he said "...What really annoys me is the hypocrisy of people clamoring for my head for asking for a new deal or to be traded."
Umenyiora is referring to a conversation he had with Giants GM Jerry Reese during the 2008 season in which he wanted to be paid like a top five defensive end if he were still playing at a high level or be traded to a team that would.
The two time pro-bowler understands a player's career is fickle with the departures of Shaun O'Hara and Rich Suebert and also coming off of hip surgery last season.
He met with Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin over the weekend and said progress was made.
