Sabathia Solves Red Sox Puzzle

(Fenway Park, Boston)- It took five starts but CC Sabathia was finally able to beat the Boston Red Sox this season as the Yankees won the opener in Fenway 5-2.

Sabathia (18-7) came into the meeting against the Sox 0-4 with a bloated era 7.20 this season. Sabathia wasn't great as he allowed ten hits in six innings and threw 128 pitches but also recorded ten strikeouts.

Showing no ill effects from the rough peronal streak against the Sox Sabathia said “That’s a good lineup over there, I would hope they have enough respect to know I can pitch pretty good when I need to."

Sabathia was able to come up big when the team needed him the most striking out MVP candidate Adrian Gonzalez in the fourth inning with runners on second and third with two outs.

The game was not without incident as Red Sox starter John Lackey did not take to kindly to catcher Francisco Cervelli's clap at homeplate after taking him deep in the fifth inning. So Lackey plucked Cervelli his next time up in the seventh.

The Yankees cut the Red Sox lead in the AL East to half a game.

From The Sports Mind of RB:
CC Sabathia needed this win no matter what he or the Yankees say. Whenever the star pitcher can't beat the hated rival questions start to rise, even from the pitcher himself.
