This game was so tense and compettive not only because of the MetLife trophy winning side would get at the end of the game but also the bragging rights for the city were on the line. Even Jets rookie defensive lineman Mo Wilkerson and Giants Brandon Jacobs got into a small skirmish and ended up getting thrown out of the game.
The New York Jets offense was good enough as a touchdown pass from Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes in the third quarter was all they needed. They did well to take advantage of some the Giants miscues which is something a good team usually does. The cornerback tandem of Darelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie are going to give teams more problems this year because Revis comes into this season with no contract disputes and no lingering hamstring issues.
The Giants offense were able to get up and down the field but they could not score a touchdown. Getting stopped on the goal line, throwing a couple of interceptions, settling for a field goal and getting another one blocked. The defense was solid not allowing the Jets to exploit them as they did to the Cincinnati Bengals the game prior. Special teams again ran into problems this week after showing signs of turning things around in last Monday night's game with the Chicago Bears.
From the Sports Mind of RB:
If you did not watch the game and just looked up the score you would have said the Jets took care of business. That is far from the truth. The Giants need to start over from scrap with the special teams because they are really, really bad. Dropping punts and kickoff returns, allowing Cromartie to return a kickoff back for decent yards and getting a field goal blocked. Even coach Tom Coughlin was 0 for 2 when it came to challenges! He never losses those! The Jets better be ready for that rematch in December because the Giants definitely will be.
