The Mets made Jason Isrinhausen's 300th save as exciting as they possibly could in a tenth inning win over the San Diego Padres 5-4.

After reliever Bobby Parnell gave up the lead in the eighth inning to the Padres the game went into extra innings.

Starter RA Dickey pitched well for the win leaving after six and a third innings givng up three runs.

Leading up to his save opportuntiy SNY commentators noted how nervous and anxious Isringhausen looked before his number was called.

Isringhausen, 38 is in his second go around with the Mets his first time he was part of Generation K with pitchers Bill Pulsifer and Paul Wilson. The Mets took a flyer on Isringhausen this past Spring Training and most expected him be an after thought after making the team. Knowing he needed seven more saves to get to the milestone he knew with Francisco Rodriguez was etched in as the Mets closer and that it was a pipe dream. Until K-Rod was traded to the Milwakee Brewers and Isringhausen has filled in well with an era of 3.14. He becomes the 23 pitcher in MLB history to record 3oo saves and the third in a Mets uniform after John Franco and Billy Wagner.

From the Sports Mind of RB:

It pretty cool to see Jason Isringhausen still nervous when he came out to get save number 300. Too many times we hear stories of guys just in it for the money or who are just playing out the twilight of their careers but to see him care and kind of enjoy the moment was pretty awesome. Congratulations to you sir and if you played for a better team you could have gotten here faster.
